Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
FAQ – Handblocked Textiles
What is hand-block printing?
Hand-block printing is a centuries-old Indian craft where artisans carve intricate designs on wooden blocks, dip them in natural or eco-safe dyes, and stamp the pattern by hand onto fabric. Each piece is unique because of slight variations in pressure and alignment — that’s the beauty of handmade!
Are your textiles 100% hand-block printed?
Yes! Every metre and every garment is printed entirely by hand using traditional wooden blocks. No screens, no digital printing.
Why do I see slight imperfections or color variations?
Minor irregularities, overlapping prints, or tiny color shifts are natural characteristics of authentic hand-block printing. These are not defects — they are proof of the human touch and make every piece one-of-a-kind.
What fabrics do you use?
Presently we work with 100% pure cotton. The other fabric forms that can be used are Mulmul (mul cotton), Cotton voile, Chanderi, Modal, Linen and Handloom cotton. Exact fabric is mentioned in each product description
Are the dyes safe and eco-friendly?
Yes. The printing is done with Azo-free dyes and natural dyes. All colors are color-fast and safe for adults, kids, and sensitive skin.
How do I wash and care for hand-block printed fabrics?
- First wash separately in cold water with mild liquid detergent
- Do not soak for more than 5–10 minutes
- Do not bleach or use harsh detergents
- Dry in shade; direct sunlight may fade natural dyes over time
- Iron on medium heat (reverse side for dark colors)
Will the color bleed?
The fabric is already pre-washed for removing any initial bleeding. However, there may be very slight bleeding in the first 1–2 washes (especially with indigo, madder, or deep reds). This is normal and will stop after the initial washes.
Can I order custom colors or designs?
Presently we are not offering this option for small quantities. But for bulk quantities we can accept made-to-order requests in your choice of color and block. But minimum quantity and lead time will apply. You can contact us at our mail aridhicollections@gmail.com OR aridhionline@gmail.com
